What is the Tokyo Mt. Fuji Guide?
The "Tokyo Mt. Fuji Guide" is a site introducing "Fujizuka" located in Tokyo.
Fujizuka are man-made hills or mounds that mimic the shape of Mt. Fuji.
In the Edo period, many people revered Mt. Fuji as a sacred mountain and longed to climb it. But this was often hard to do—both physically and economically.
Fujizuka were built for people unable to climb the real Mt. Fuji. These "miniature Mt. Fujis" were well received by local people and affectionately referred to as "OFuji-san."
It is said that the oldest fujizuka was built in An'ei era 9 (1780) on the grounds of Takada Mizu-Inari Shrine in Edo. About 60 to 80 fujizuka remain in Tokyo to this day.
Why not climb a fujizuka, a "power spot" carefully protected since long ago?
